As we are one month away from New York Fashion 2023-week AKA the highest level of Fashion meets, confidence is a key to navigating the sea of “I’m here and I am seen”.
Your confidence can be shaken by something as simple as a look or no look at all, over the years being the victim of my worst anxieties when talking in public or meeting new people I have exercised a routine (plan) to help better with my entourage.
I can’t confidently say it will work for everyone, although if you make as much as one connection at an event consider it a good step because a win is a win.
As a woman of color, curvy, and strong English accent, with not have a huge following on social media. I know how it can feel like I will rather be in a corner with my drink and on my phone and no eye contact, NOPE, it is 2023 and we celebrate our presence okay?
Shop the look
Look your best
The first contact is visual, yes, it is cliche, nonetheless, it is the hard truth if you look your best and are comfortable in your own skin it shows, and your energy will attract people toward you.
Wear a dress in which you can seat comfortably, and walk at ease. Also, have your hair done, nails done and of course, have your makeup flawless more natural the better. Spray a subtil scent to finish the look.
Wear a smile and engage in conversation
This simple question with a smile goes a long way in a public setting, you are meeting people for the first time, you most likely don’t know them, and vice versa, initiating the conversation with a natural question shows you have empathy and not only here for a follow for follow on Instagram.
Be ready to say who you are and what you do
You look great, you are smiling you are initiating conversations, and the people around you now will be interested in you, and be ready to say what you do and the dreams that inspire you, little did you know someone in the assistance might become a link to a future venture.
Move around and be approachable
You have completed presentations in this group, politely withdraw yourself by mentioning the persons standing by their first name (very important to remember the names it shows you care and could eventually maintain contact) exchange numbers or social media info, and moves away to connect with more people.
Enjoy the event
Yes, remember why you came in the first place, either at a Fashion show or at a speaker event take the time to assimilate around you, listen to the people, and take a look around, you will learn from veterans’ influencers and see how they nurture their relationships at a public event.
Also remember it is better with practice, everyone started somewhere, and the more you go out and make yourself comfortable the more you will be at ease to connect and network.
Happy Fashion week 2023
And I hope I see you out there killing it
