2023 has started on a different note fashionably parlant, we started with an attitude of resilience to face the uncertainty, well fairly speaking we did not know if we were to be back into quarantine to a new virus or whether we will have to face foreign adversaries mete sou li, all this traumatic news coverage has developed a lot of thinking to really put our life in perspective, one ripple effect example is wanting more substance and being less superficial.
Less is more has hurriedly taken space in our decision of what to shop, our lifestyle choices and style aesthetics this year. Even FASHION WEEK back in early February did not feel the same, many Fashionistas, bloggers, and attendees professed the exact sentiment, notably, it is in our Fashion nature to find solace and this year we the people have demanded the industry to pivot the influence from flashy to elegance and simplistic styles.
The soft girl era did not start in 2023, nonetheless, it really set off major waves to accomplish, or in other words, it became viral this year; the era is best described as a lifestyle and most importantly taking care of the mental health by seriously adopting activities and setting healthy priorities for the well-being of oneself. A return to simple, and intentional living, positive energy, and setting wholesome spiritual boundaries.
The “Quiet luxury” trend as well started way before 2023 better say all luxury Fashion House brands have designed a multitude of collections in which their logos and name were not apparent or on display before, nonetheless this year the expression “quiet luxury” has taken over all demographics of aesthetics and acceptance, marron, beige and bleu ciel hues predominated. Leisure, loose and plush pieces prevailed, and quite frankly we needed this effortless sense of dressing.
Sofia Richie’s wedding confirmed this year’s conventional trend, her union checked all the boxes of tradition and chicness, a beautiful ceremony and a timeless and elegant venue were au rendez- vous, she shared her journey in the most simplistic and positive aspect, and the impact of her sophisticated marriage has influenced a lot of young ladies to find the right partner get married by taking adroitly the conventional way of union.
Artists are known to be fashionably expressive and portray their image as they please, right? especially in the Music Industry, because Fashion and entertainment go hand in hand. This year BET award was shadowed by the viewer’s critics of the assembly dress code. 85% to 90% of the opinions were in disbelief of the lack of elegance and surprisingly most of the well-known Fashion influencers disregarded commenting on the night. Yes, it was that bad, fashionably speaking, we the viewers wanted more class, stylishness, and panache from the artists.
There is more evidence of how this year has established a more conventional trend, honorable mention is jupe jeans is I mean a la mode (a minute of silence for every Haitian teenager, now millennial) Yes as we the Haitian community are flabbergasted (joking but not joking).
